What does loving God look like? Here is a simple
picture….
There is a little six year old boy, named Jack, who
lives to go to work with Dad. Once or
twice a year, his dad lets him go. To prepare for the big day, Jack gets up
early and gets out his special “go to work with Dad” clothes. He puts on a clip-on tie and then comes in dad's room looking for one of those special pens. If Dad wears a pen in his pocket,
Jack must have a pen like it.
Jack and Dad don’t have long together. They eat
breakfast or lunch, then take a tour of the hospital and Jack may get to color a picture
at Dad’s meeting table. Even though it’s not long, Jack comes home glowing and
thrilled at how special their time was. Jack has no idea what his dad really
does. He doesn’t know that his dad makes lots of important decisions each day,
or that people often come to him for advice, or that hundreds of people read
his blog. Jack just cares that he has been in the presence of his father. He knows his dad
loves him and wants to be where he is. He wants to be about
his father’s business. If you ask where he wants to work, he'll say, "Where Dad works."
Do we desire to be in the presence of our Father, God? Do we yearn like a child for a moment in his presence? Jesus told us the
greatest command, not option by the way, was to love the Lord your God with all
your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. Child like faith believes all,
loves without condition, follows without knowing the destination, and jumps for
joy in the presence of the Father.
God calls us his children, his sons and daughters. I pray for a greater love of the presence of our Father in heaven for me
and for you. It is a wonder to sit in the presence of our God.
Matthew 18:2-4
Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and
said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little
children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this
little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
