I know I have an enemy in the spiritual realm. We seldom hear people talk about him and while he doesn't deserve my fascination, I am aware of his presence lurking around me like a lion waiting to strike. He is the competing voice in my ears saying, "You and God are fine. Didn't you pray today before dinner? You read your Bible for 15 minutes this morning. You are awesome!"
That doesn't sound like a competing message, but when we're a people in danger of becoming prideful at the least bit of encouragement, we are in danger. Why? Because God didn't ask for 15 minutes once a day. God didn't ask for us to just pray before dinner. God didn't ask us to pay a little attention to him so that all will be well with us. The requirement is that we love God with all of our heart - 24 hours worth, and all of our soul - our very being, and with our all-day mind, so that we are one with His thoughts and desires. He wants me to know and revere Him so thoroughly that He can guide me with one glance of His eye.
Psalm 32:7-9
Father,
You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;I will guide you with My eye.9 Do not be like the horse or like the mule,Which have no understanding,Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle,Else they will not come near you.
Let my mind be attentive to the Holy Spirit today. May He be my primary companion and the one I seek in conversation. What do you want to do through me today? Let me feel your love, for I know it's great. Let my mind be tuned in to what you long for and let your peace go with me and overflow onto others. Keep me from pride and keep me desperate for the guidance of your eye upon me.
Thanks for your hand on me and for the comfort of your presence every morning.
Amen
